Comic-Con 2010 Roundup

Before you read this, please note that Comic-Con is a huge conference (I didn’t need to tell you that) so this list will not detail or link to every single event, but shows/movies/animation/video games/other that interested me enough to do some extra digging. I didn’t link to every single piece of material I could find, just those that had sufficient material. If anyone liked this post, or saw something I didn’t see, send me a tweet @duniyadnd or reply to this post. Please note, that there will be NO Star Wars reporting in this article. I have to work on that tomorrow or later this week probably because there’s so much to report in that area and I’ll link it somewhere on the top.

Movies

Angelina Jolie’s Salt was being released the same day (or the next day) she showed up, so Hollywood was really working the hype of Comic-Con. So were news networks such as TMZ. #lame

Oh, and Universal also has had some stuff about Battle: Los Angeles but I got turned off by Lame Salt being part of the panel, so just going to direct you to this link.

Punisher #cool #punisher_vs_avengers #reboot

The Punisher (movie) is now back under Marvel’s helm (before it was under Lionsgate). The character will be getting a reboot and will be getting a “Frank Castle” film rather than a “Punisher” film. This was all announced by Kevin Feige.

Ironclad - Release date: 2010 #okay #movie #interesting

Knights Templar and his “Magnificent Seven” have to defend Rochester Castle from King John and his army in the 13th century England. I feel like watching Seven Samurai again all of a sudden.

Skyline first announcement - no release date #ummmmm

Something is literally taking life off the planet - like moths to a flame. (more details)

Sony Pictures - Priest (3D) #good_luck #interesting

I saw Legion earlier this year, expecting it to be a so-so movie (it got a C+ by users on Yahoo Movies btw). The first 30-45 minutes, I thought the movie was really good, and then it went downhill all the way - had so much potential. The same folks seemed to see the potential so they’re working on another movie, called Priest. From the Comic-Con website:

The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills. Stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Maggie Q, Cam Gigandet, Stephen Moyer, and director Scott Stewart will be onstage to unveil the first 3D look at Priest.

More info via slashfilm and some publicity shots

Fortunately, the movie is made in 3D so you won’t get any The Last Airbender/Clash of the Titans messed up images.

Red - Release date: October.15.2010 #iwannaseethis #cool #funny

I’m not sure if this is the trailer that was shown at Comic-Con, in fact - I didn’t know about this project until this Comic-Con, so I’ll just stick with this trailer. Stars Bruce Willis. This movie seems comparable to Sly’s The Expendables in its own way.

Dreamwork Animations Megamind - Release Date - November.5.2010 #yawn?

Mega details at CinemaBlend. Somehow reminds me of Monsters vs. Aliens (not to be confused with Cowboys & Aliens - which is mentioned below).

Resident Evil: Afterlife #ok #tvmovie

The film was filmed in 3-D. The actresses spoke about how they got bumped/injured a couple of times because they actually got hit as they could not use any trick photography. I saw the interview with G4 on TV, I’m not going to bother putting it up here, the entire 5-10 minute conversation with Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter (who was also expecting) was about the movie being in 3-D and how the movie was going to be great in 3-D because it was made with 3-D in mind. Yeah, you’re welcome. Can’t wait for the movie though.

The Hobbit - #make_it_already

The Hobbit - quick update - no final script yet, so not yet greenlit. The movie has not cast anyone because it has not been greenlit, so all actor/actress rumors are false. The movie will be divided into two parts once/if greenlit by Warner Bros.

Super #idk

Like so much other media reported at Comic Con, I never heard of this production. It had Liv Tyler, Nathan Fillion, Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and many more that it’s worth looking at.

Panel report - their official site

The Green Lantern - Release date: July.24.2011 #cool #electrifying

Ryan Reynolds reads out the oath to a young fan

In case you missed it, EW released what The Green Lantern is going to look like:

The Expendables: Release Date: August.13.2010 #testosterone #booyah

Cast showed up for The Expendables, very shaky cam footage below.

Dreamworks Pictures » Cowboys & Aliens: Release Date: July.29.2011 #comics #cool #jon_favraeu #harrison_ford

A full panel showed up at Comic-Con (Jon Favreau, Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell to name a few). They showed some footage, but no one uploaded that stuff (you’ll notice that trend here). First screenshot of Daniel Craig below. Some footage of the Panel right below that.

We learned that Jon Favreau will be sticking to a classic feel for creating the Western and Sci-Fi elements, but will use CGI when needed. Fortunately, he does not feel the need to go 3-D.

And to show how little he let people know that everyone was showing up at the Panel, here is his interview with G4TV right before

Read a description of what happened in the footage

Disney

Guillermo del Toro announcesHaunted Mansion’ remake for Disney… question is Why?? It won’t be a comedy type movie like the Eddie Murphy version which was released a while back. #wtf

Tron - Release date: December.17.2010 #tron #classic #about_time #trailer

New Trailer

Disney » Marvel Studios (Thor/Captain America/Avengers) - though they are being distributed by Paramount

Thor - Release date: May.6.2011 #thor #cool #avengers

Odin’s throne room shown

Plus a few other shots

Thor footage was shown - no leaked videos online (Marvel/Disney are really at it this year). But here’s a full blown description via SlashFilms. Thor is slated to be released in 3D as well (again - why?)

Do not get it confused with the following fan edit of a various mishmash of movies:

Avengers - May.4.2012 #avengers #thor #ironman #hulk #captamerica

Seems like the entire list of The Avengers showed up to show everyone they’re all on the same page. Included in the list was Mark Ruffalo, who replaced Edward Norton as The Hulk (IMHO - Edward Norton was great as The Hulk).

Image from Marvel

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows #harry_potter #harrypotter #final_second_last_movie #cool #awesome #voldemor

Before you watch this movie - read the damn series. Seriously, you’ll appreciate it a whole lot more. People were impressed already with the footage they were seeing, like at techland, fans, and cinemblend. To get you guys excited, here is a trailer that was released not too long ago for both films based on the final book.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Release date: August.13.2010 #nownownow #iwannaseeit #cool #awesome #domination

I’m super excited/stoked/holycrapicantwait for this movie, but I think for Comic-Con, this may be a PR disaster (for me). There’s so much information and so many articles, but a lot of them do not overlap, so even more reading is required. Either that, or they’re pushing this movie on all fronts at various venues, that it’s hard to keep track of it all. So, via extensive research, this is the best page I could find for you to get the information you need about this movie. As a bonus, Scott Pilgrim trailer (which I’m sure everyone has seen) is below.

New 7th level boss video came up - and here it is:

And below is a trailer everyone is aware of:

Television

CW - Nikita #interesting #potential

Did you know that there was a Nikita show coming out? Me neither. But I guess I’ll be hearing more about it after seeing the trailer below:

more - unsurprising info

Syfy - Sanctuary #what_is_happening

I caught this show when it was first playing on Hulu, and then suddenly stopped, but I always wondered how it is doing. I hear it’s still playing on SyFy, but I couldn’t find much coverage about it online. minor details

Fox - Fringe; CW - Vampire Diaries; ABC - V #filler

I stopped watching Fringe midway through the second season, I thought the first season was great, but after a point in the second, I just didn’t care anymore as I didn’t know what the point of this whole show was. And because I don’t watch Vampire Diaries or V, here is a single article that talks about all three of the shows at tvsquad.com

TNT - Leverage #cool

Show about a group of thieves (at least 4 of them) who have a Robin Hood syndrome (did I make that up, or does that phrase actually exist?)

More details

NBC - Chuck #cool #minor_details

Jeffster performed Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”. Chuck’s mom is to be played by Linda Hamilton. Ellie and Awesome will have a baby. Morgan will continue to play his role in a Robin suit.

HBO - True Blood #idk

I felt I needed to include True Blood here, because it’s got a huge and loyal following. Suffice it to say, I don’t have HBO, I tried watching the show twice when I was travelling (hotel had HBO), and both times it didn’t work for me, so I’ll just say they had a panel and you can get more info here and there is a clip below.

TNT - Falling Skies #idk

Steven Spielberg likes to get his hands dirty with Sci-Fi, the last series I can think of that he worked on was Taken which was an alright event, nothing compared to Band of Brothers that came out a year before. In Falling Skies 80% of the world’s population is no longer with us, and this series follows a rag tag group of people who try to survive. (more info)

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

I saw the first episode of Spartacus, and it didn’t appeal to me. I really liked 300, but there was something off about this show. Last week, a colleague told me it really improved from then on, so I may have to try again.

More details about season 2

Teen Wolf show “based” off the Michael J. Fox movie. It’s about lacrosse, it seems darker, and the protagonist was bitten. Read at your own risk. #wtf

The Cape #wtf #summer_glau #firefly

Remember that show called Heroes that had so much promise, but turned out to be crappy some seasons in. Well, NBC is trying the superhero hype machine again with The Cape. I’ll keep my mind open because River Summer Glau is in the show.

The Big Bang Theory #awesome

Amazingly funny show (if you haven’t seen it, you should). Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple - if you don’t ask Steve Jobs) will be in the show. Simon Helberg nearly lost his hair. One fan suggested that an episode is made at Comic-Con. Unfortunately the co-creators shot that idea down. “We’re an indoor cat”, Lorre said.

Nickelodeon Avatar: The Last Airbender Properties #airbender #cool #animation #korra

A new spinoff was announced (officially) right before Comic-Con - Avatar: Legend of Korra. (more details)

Comic-Con - An attendee announced that at the panel, they said that it is going to be a mini-series (12 episodes).

USA - Psych #shout #what_are_you_doing_here #psych

Their hilarious intro. What they did at their panel - not really interested, but you can find the 2009 panel on Youtube and guess what they said this year.

USA - Burn Notice #what_are_you_doing_here #cool #bruce_campbell

Bruce Campbell’s character (Sam Axe) will be getting a one time movie event. No date was announced. (More info) .

USA - White Collar #what_are_you_doing_here #white_collar #cool

Just like Burn Notice and Psych, love the show, but don’t know what they’re doing at Comic Con. I like the title of this blog, so linking to it - they got some pictures, and a video which I’m putting right below. See cast members playing/dancing with the Wii - don’t know the title of this game, so someone if someone can let me know - that’d be great.

FOX - Bones #idk

I know nothing about Bones (seeing a trend here?), but I do know that this article had a lot of relevant information about the panel with plenty of spoilers (because they had spoiler tags). See? I notice a few things here and there.

ABC - Castle #what_are_you_doing_here #cool #nathan_fillion #firefly

Nation Fillion (Firefly, Firefly, and Firefly) is interviewed by Olivia Munn. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find much info that made sense to me in the Panel, so no links to that. Castle is quite good - check that show out on Mondays on ABC.

Video Games

Heard of Drizzt Do’Urden? Then you must have heard of RA Salvatore? Then you may have heard that he’s working on a new fantasy land which will host the game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Dragon Age II #bioware #rpg

The folks at Gamespot got a chance to play it and have a full description.

DC Universe - #mmo #rpg

There may be some cross-over promotional opportunity with the game and the Green Lantern film

Not just anyone can join the Green Lantern Corps.

The game is still set for a November 2 release.

Epic - Gears of War 3

There will be a splitscreen mode, but four player co-op is solely on Xbox Live.

Fans will now get to choose what happens to Carmine (each game, he lost a dear one). They get to choose if he lives or dies by bying an avatar shirt that goes to charity named “Child’s Play”.

Streetfighter-Tekken crossovers

Seems like there are two Streetfighter-Tekken crossovers.

Maxis Studios - Darkspore

Built off the same vein as Spore - which was a highly anticipated but eventually disappointing game that was supposed to revolutionize and bring the masses back to PC gaming. Darkspore  will take a lot of the good from the original but will have sci-fi action RPG elements. This sounds cool and interesting and many more things. Intro video below - and more details:

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions

The final dimension in Activision’s Spider-Man game has been revealed. If you don’t want to know, don’t watch the video. Ah hell, I’m going to spell it out right here.

1. Amazing Spidey - the one everyone is familiar with - which will allow Spider-Man create weapons through his webbing ability

2. Noir - which is going to be stealth based and all missions take place at night,

3. the Year 2099 - will include fast paced free wall chase sequences and

4. Ultimate Dimension - where spidey wears a black suit which will allow players to use black tentacles and a rage mode.

Wolverine|Iron Man|X-Men|Blade: Anime

Everyone remembers the cool Anime teaser of Iron Man that was released last year (everyone = me), G4 will be the ones providing the anime series in the US. Last year, they also released the Wolverine teaser, and I think I’m with the majority of fans, that Wolverine didn’t look like Wolverine. There will be four anime series, Wolverine; Iron Man; X-Men; and Blade.

See the G4 announcement below:

Batman: Under the Red Hood

Below is a brand new clip from MTV, and also a link about some cool stuff that was reported after the first showing of the movie from collider.com.

Clockwork Girl’s new animated trailer based on the Comic Book by Frog Children Studios

Video Games

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

I thought the IP God of War was over with the final PlayStation 3 installment (God of War 3). Apparently not, but that’s not a bad thing. When God of War: Chains of Olympus came out, that was the only game I was coveting to get for a long time. I still haven’t finished it, but that’s because I’m a lazy bum, but if this enw game improves on the old one by just a little bit, I’m sure it’ll be a hit. more details and footage below

MS Game Studios/Liongate - Fable III #boring #ok #whats_new

Remember that awesome game that Fable II was supposed to be? Which ended up being a character of yours dancing, juggling and farting? Well, it seems you can be excited about the same stuff in Fable III where your character exists in a complex world with complex farting disorders.

- Tribute for Ken Krueger

Tim Kring (creator of Heroes) wrote a book titled “Shift”. Hopefully it has an actual plotline with an ending in sight. Book is out August 10th, 2010.

I really thought I’d find some more Nickelodeon stuff, but all I found was the full schedule of events (I probably don’t know the right source, so if someone can direct me, that’d be great). So here is what happened for Nickelodeon. They probably spoke about Spongebob, Kung Fu Panda, and Penguins of Madagascar. The only piece I know about Nickelodeon stuff is the Legend of Korra announcement.
